Beach Walk Pentaptych—Curator’s Choice Award

When you are really lucky in life, you discover a special place in the world that is unlike anywhere else. It becomes the go to place, the place where peace surrounds you and heals your soul. On a tent camping trip, my husband and I found a remote state park on a beach on the northern Florida Panhandle. For over three decades I have walked along that beach. Sometimes alone. Sometimes with my husband, son or daughter. And sometimes with our devoted Golden Retriever, Bailey. The consistent sound of the waves reminds me that love and hope are as perennial as the grass. This is the place where I have celebrated, cried and prayed. Over the years the beach walks became a ritual of living and appreciation for the simplicity life has to offer. The salt from my tears of joy tasted like the ocean the day my son got married on that beach. This unassuming state park took our hearts and has never released them. My beach walk will continue long after I am gone. This beach will remain and will be a reminder to my children that even in the darkest hours love will prevail.
This piece was inspired by a photo of me walking along our favorite family beach. My beach walk will continue long after I am gone. This beach will remain and will be a reminder to my children that even in the darkest hours love will prevail.
